Daddy’s Home 2

Review by Honey B

Director:  Sean Anders Cast: Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, Mel Gibson, John Lithgow, Linda Cardellini, Alessandra Ambrosio, John Cena Plot: Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) and Brad (Will Ferrell) have joined forces to provide their kids with the perfect Christmas. Their newfound partnership is put to the test when Dusty's old-school, macho Dad (Mel Gibson) and Brad's ultra-affectionate and emotional Dad (John Lithgow) arrive just in time to throw the holiday into complete chaos. Verdict: It’s double the dads and double the fun in this goofy holiday flick. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg are the odd couple behind the success of this flick and adding to the dad humour and mayhem are the exuberant  John Lithgow and a pretty joyless Mel Gibson. Both of the grandpas add to the dysfunctional family dynamic at one of the most stressful times of year – Christmas. Will Ferrell’s emotional character Brad and Mark Wahlberg’s tough character Dusty have found some happy ground and have ended their dad duel and are now co-parenting in relative harmony. Dusty was previously married to Brad’s wife (Linda Cardellini), however Brad now has a new partner (Alessandra Ambrosio) who brings her own daughter  and former partner into the mix. Enter the grandpas who add to the colourful modern family. John Lithgow is nerdy, kind and funny, while Mel Gibson’s macho grandpa certainly stirs the pot and aims to cause lots of trouble by playing Dusty and Brad against each other. There’s the naughty (Gibson) and the nice (Lithgow). Daddy’s Home 2 is formulaic Christmas fare and some jokes stick and others simply don’t. The flick is at its best when Ferrell is at his slapstick best battling Christmas decorations or accidentally taking to a mobile phone tower with a chainsaw. This is the perfect big Hollywood movie Christmas gift right down to the Liam Neeson cameo.  (Movies are rated out of 5 stars)
