Robin Hood

Review by Honey B Director:  Otto Bathurst Cast: Taron Egerton, Jamie Fox, Eve Hewson, Ben Mendelsohn, Jamie Dornan Plot: Robin of Loxley (Taron Egerton) a war-hardened Crusader and his Moorish commander (Jamie Foxx) mount an audacious revolt against the corrupt English crown in a thrilling action-adventure packed with gritty battlefield exploits, mind-blowing fight choreography, and a timeless romance. Verdict: There are many different versions of Robin Hood who have made it to the big screen The latest version of “The Hood’’ is a big budget, action-packed flick, which is an origin story for Robin of Loxley. Played by Taron Egerton, it’s a much younger Robin in this version of the film and we see the rich, lord of the manor in more modern, leather attire. He’s already falling in love with Marion (Eve Hewson) before he is shipped off to the crusades by the ever-nasty Sherriff of Nottingham. It's in battle that Robin meets a Moor warrior (Jamie Foxx) who stows away on the boat back to England to enact revenge for his son's death. The Moor, who takes on the name of John, engages Robin to help him get his revenge by taking down the sheriff from within the ranks of the privileged during the day and cutting off the money supply by stealing at night. Along with the script overhaul, the feel of the flick is very industrial and gritty and the costumes are very much a modern take on the era. Foxx is fantastic with a bow and arrow and the scenes as he and Egerton train together are thrilling to say the least. Egerton also flexes his muscle as The Hood, however his character arc is a little thin. Egerton certainly sizzles with his maid Marion, Hewson. An honourable mention goes out to Tim Minchin for his light-hearted, well-meaningFriar Tuck. Robin Hood is back and he’s bigger than ever. (Movies are rated out of 5 stars)
