Director:  Hany Abu-Assad Cast: Kate Winslet, Idris Elba, Beau Bridges Plot: Stranded on a mountain after a tragic plane crash, two strangers must work together to endure the extreme elements of the remote, snow-covered terrain. Realizing that help is not on the way, they embark on a perilous journey across hundreds of miles of wilderness, pushing each other to survive and discovering their inner strength. Verdict: There’s no better way to survive an icy mountain than with a bit of lovelorn heat. It’s lucky that these two strangers, photojournalist Alex Martin (Winslet) and surgeon Ben Bass (Elba), have some chemistry so that they can survive their unexpected plane crash ordeal. With a dead pilot, mangled plane and the pilot’s dog the pair must decide what to do next – simply stay put or take their chances trying to find civilisation. Winslet’s character is forced to bide her time while her broken leg some-what heals while Elba’s hunky doctor climbs the mountain to look for signs of life. He doesn’t want to leave the shelter of the plane and she is itching to go. After some heated words, Alex heads off with the dog and it’s not long before Ben takes off after his feisty companion. This script, written by Chris Weitz and J. Mills Goodloe, focuses more on the simmering love story than it does on the survival aspects of the tale. Alex seems to be accident-prone and luckily Ben saves her every time she comes into danger and the dog even gets his chance to save her too. Ben drags Alex across the icy wilderness as Alex makes sure he keeps an eye on the dog. Winslet and Elba have some wonderful chemistry and Elba makes a lust-worthy romantic lead. Who cares if Winslet’s character has a fiancé. This is an intense romantic survival movie which ticks all of the essential chick flick boxes.  (Movies are rated out of 5 stars)
